How did the Forest Act affect the lives of foresters and villagers ?
Ans.
The Forest Act created many problems for the villagers:
(i) Their daily practices-cutting wood for their houses, hunting, Ashing and collecting fruits now become illegal.
(ii) People were forced to steal wood from the forests and if caught were at the mercy of the forest guards who would take bribes from them.
(iii) Women who generally collected fuel wood were especially vulnerable. It was common for police constables and forest guards to harass people.
