What were the factors responsible for the civil war which broke out in Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917?

(i) When the Bolsheviks ordered land redistribution, the Russian army began to break up because most of the soldiers wished to go home for the redistribution.

(ii) Non-Bolshevik socialists, liberals and supporters of the Tsar condemned the Bolshevik uprising. They also had their army which was being supported by France, America and the British troops.

(iii) In many regions, the Bolshevik colonists brutally massacred local nationalists.

(iv) Even most of the non-Russians were not happy.
