In France, there was only one major difference between active and passive citizens.
(i) In France, only men above 25 years of age who paid taxes equal of at least 3 days of a labourer’s wages were given the status of active citizens. They were entitled to vote.
(ii) The remaining men as well as all women, who were not entitled to vote, were called passive citizens.
(iii) These categorisation was as per the provision made in the Constitution of 1791.
